The Clogau brand was first brought to life when a local Welshman named William Roberts made an exciting discovery in the rural mountains of Snowdonia. Roberts was able to extract a stockpile of rare Welsh gold that was then used exclusively to create the jewellery that founded the Clogau brand. Since then, Clogau jewellery has become renowned around the world not just for their striking designs but for be-ing worn by members of the Royal family including Her Majesty the Queen and the late Princess Diana of Wales.
All our Clogau jewellery is delivered in elegant Clogau packaging.

A tale of Welsh history is told with this beautiful silver necklace. The Welsh patron saint of friendship and love named Dwynwen was said to have lived during the 5th century. Legend has it that she was one of the prettiest of Brychan Bycheiniog’s 24 daughters. Maelon was a prince who Dwynwen fell in love with, however, their love was forbidden as her father had already arranged for her to marry someone else. Dwynwen was so distraught by this that she begged God to make her forget about her love for Maelon. That night she fell asleep and was awoken by an Angel, who supposedly carried a potion that could erase all memory of Maelon and turn him into a block of ice. The angel then granted her 3 wishes, this is represented by the interlocking rose gold elements.

This Clogau silver necklace, is perfect gift for someone who is very patriotic of Wales or someone who is interested in Welsh culture because of its interesting backstory about Dwynwen. However, this necklace symbolises undeniable love, so this would be an ideal gift for someone special on Valentines Day or any occasion that you might want to express your love, as a romantic gesture, rather than just words. The feminine design of this necklace makes this more suitable for women, for example, a girlfriend or a wife. A great pairing for this necklace would be the Clogau Opal Bangle, designed especially to match with the necklace.

Wales is known for its majestic scenery. Snowdonia is known as one of Wales’ most beautiful areas, located in North West Wales, this mountain contains the rare gold that Clogau jewellery originated from. The songs of ancient Celtic bards and archaeological records show that Welsh gold has had a long and fascinating existence. Considered one of the rarest precious metals in the world, Clogau uses a fraction of this gold in each piece of jewellery to ensure the highest quality of jewellery. The reason only a fraction is used in each piece of jewellery is because gold mining doesn’t take place in Wales anymore, meaning that one day it is inevitable that there will be a shortage of it.
